About

" Windham County's Independent Source for News and Views"

The Commons has won more more than three dozen awards for journalistic excellence from the New England Newspaper and Press Association (including first place for general excellence) and from the Vermont Press Association (including Best Nondaily Newspaper). We employ many established freelance writers to produce our features, and have a strong base of dedicated hard working journalists who work round the clock to bring you informative unbiased stories.

Based on the belief that news is too important to be a commodity, The Commons is published by the nonprofit Vermont Independent Media, whose mission is to promote independent media and provide education, mentoring, and support through seminars, school curriculum, and internships, with 100% of support through advertising, memberships and donations going toward the paper’s production and operations.
