Welcome to the Brattleboro Words Trail.
From Abenaki petroglyphs and the first known African American poet Lucy Terry Prince, to Nobel Laureates like Saul Bellow, Jody Williams and Rudyard Kipling, these surprising, artistic, community-created audio stories link places to people to create a unique Vermont experience exploring America's most storied small town!
Companion printed Brattleboro Words Trail maps are available at sites in Brattleboro and surrounding towns or can be ordered at: brattleborowords@gmail.com.
Large, living Brattleboro Words Trail ceramic map murals, used to make the printed maps, are currently on exhibit at 118 Elliot Street in Brattleboro. The murals will move and the maps will grow as new stories are added over time.
If you just want to listen to the stories from your computer, just click into the map sections and listen. Photos and links enliven each tile page beyond the 5-7 minute audio segment.
If using the app, enable the app to know your location. Find yourself on the map and start with whatever location you are near. If you want to find your way to a specific location, select that tile then click on the map icon in list view or scroll to directions on story page to see a map and get directions to that place.
