Founded by Stephen Stearns in 1989 as a theater "of, by and for" young people, the New England Youth Theater continues today as a place where kids can grow as artists, learners and community members. The concept of collaborative work between youth and professional mentorship has helped NEYT grow over the years. Originally housed in a small restaurant and with 30 young actors, NEYT now inhabits its own building and is a bustling accessible youth theater of over 500 students and 50 mentors.
NEYT Alums help the theater put on a Shakespeare production via film during the times of Covid, exhibiting the can-do spirit -- 'commit to action' in the words of Goethe, and all things are possible.
