About

Kyle Gilbert was born in Brattleboro in 1983. He attended schools locally and, as a senior at Brattleboro Union High School in 2001, Kyle enlisted in the US Army. He left for Iraq 2 weeks after graduating. On August 11, 2003, Kyle was killed by sniper fire during an attack in Baghdad. In Brattleboro, news of his death rippled through the region. As the Main Street Bridge over the Whetstone was under construction at that time, the local community joined together to dedicate the bridge in Kyle's memory, and to honor "all the brave men and women who served our country or made the supreme sacrifice in Iraq".
